PERSONAL SAFETY GUIDE
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
SINGLE USE PARTICULATE RESPIRATORS

Instructions for use:
EN149:2001 + A2:2009 is the European standard for single use particulate respirators. It has three categories FFP1, FFP2
and FFP3 NR. Before reading the following information please check the category to which the respirator belongs this is
indicated on the packaging and on the respirator.
Check prior to use:
1. Check the straps are well stapled
2. Check the nosepiece and inner sponge are glued closely on the respirator
3. Check the valve is set up well if the respirator is with an exhalation valve
4. Check the valid date which is printed on the packaging.
MOULDED RESPIRATORS
Fitting instructions:
1. Hold the respirator in your hand with the nosepiece at your fingertips allowing the headbands to hang freely below
your hand
2. Cup the respirator firmly against your face with the nosepiece on the bridge of your nose
3. Pull the top strap over your head resting it at the top back of your head. Pull the bottom strap over your head and
position it around the neck and below the ears.
4. Press soft nosepiece to conform snugly around the nose.
5. (a) To test fit for the respirator for exhalation valve: Cup both hands over the respirator and exhale vigorously.
(b) To test fit for the respirator with extension valve: Cup both hands over the respirator and inhale sharply.
6. A negative pressure should be felt inside the respirator. If leakage is detected, adjust position of respirator and/or
tension of strap. Re-test the seal, and repeat procedure until the respirator is sealed properly. Careful observance of
the instructions is an important step is safe respirator use.
FOLD FLAT RESPIRATORS
Fitting instructions:
1. Place fingers inside the respirator. Bend the nose clip around fingers to form nose shape.
2. Holding mask in position over nose and mouth, with retaining straps around back of hand. Pull lower portion of
strap over head and fit around neck.
3. Stretch and pull the upper strap over your head on the back of your head above your ears.
4. Using both hands, form nose clip around nose and adjust the tension in the upper and lower portions of the
continuous loop head strap, to ensure a positive face seal.
5. a) To test fit for respirator without exhalation valve: Cup both hands over the respirator and exhale vigorously.
b) To test fit for respirator with exhalation valve: Cup both hands over the respirator and inhale sharply. A negative
pressure should be felt inside respirator. If air flows around your nose, tighten the nosepiece. If air leaks around the
edges, reposition the headband for better fit.
6. Change respirator immediately if breathing becomes difficult or respirator becomes damaged or distorted, or a
proper face fit cannot be maintained. Careful observance of these instructions is an important stop in safe respirator
use.
